BookPost
BookPost is a Web tool that helps with putting together a weblog post about any book.

BookPost Bookmarklet

A Bookmarklet is a bit of JavaScript stored inside a bookmark. To install BookPost, drag the link below to your toolbar. To use it, just click on it as you would any bookmark.

Bookmarklet: BookPost (drag to your toolbar)

Requirements

If you have a weblog and use a tool that supports the Blogger API, you're all set to use BookPost. Tools that support the Blogger API include Blogger.com, Radio Userland, and Movable Type. If you're using Blogger.com, no further action is required. If you're using one of the other tools, check the help documentation for the URL of its API; you'll be prompted to include it.

How to use it

There are two ways you can use BookPost: from Amazon.com or by entering an ISBN.

From Amazon: 1.) Find a book on Amazon you'd like to post about. 2.) While you're on the product detail page, click the BookPost bookmark. 3.) Enter your weblog tool username/password, and post!

With ISBN: 1.) Click on the BookPost bookmarklet. 2.) Enter an ISBN. 3.) Enter your weblog tool username/password, post away!

How much is it?

It's free! But keep in mind this is an experiment, so things might not always go smoothly. If you don't enter an associate id, it will use mine. I encourage you not to enter an associate id if you like this service.

How does it work under the hood?

I'm using Amazon Web Services to get the book information, and the Blogger API Web Service to retrieve your list of weblogs and post. This service is completely dependent on Amazon and your weblog tool; so if either of these aren't available for any reason, BookPost won't work.

Privacy

I'm not storing and I don't have any way to look at usernames, passwords, or posts. Keep in mind that the information sent to your weblog tool from BookPost is not encrypted. I've made it as reasonably secure as possible given the way these API systems work. Also, you have the option to let BookPost store some information in a cookie on your machine. To erase this cookie at any point, click "Logout" at the bottom-right of the posting page.

Here's a typical way to use BookPost:

1.) You find a book on Amazon.com that you're interested in.

2.) You click the BookPost link on your toolbar.

3.) The BookPost window pops-up, and prompts for your Blogger username/password.

4.) From there you can choose a blog to post to, and compose your post about the book. Click "post" (and optionally check the "publish" box) to post your words and the book link to your blog!
